Spyfall, the first episode of Doctor Who Series 12, will air at 6:55pm on New Year’s Day 2020, beginning a 10-episode run which is expected to conclude on 1st March.
This is just five minutes earlier than the previous New Year’s Day special, Resolution, which screened on BBC1 at 7pm.
The debut episode of Series 12 is written by showrunner, Chris Chibnall, and will be the first of a two-parter – the first multi-part story for Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor (although The Woman Who Fell To Earth did end on a cliffhanger which led into The Ghost Monument). More two-part adventures are promised for the season.
Unusually, the second episode of Series 12 is helmed by a different director; Spyfall Part One is directed by Jamie Magnus Stone, while the second is by Lee Haven Jones. Does this mean it’s not a strict two-parter? Or that the directorial order is wrong? Or that what was previously listed as “Episode 1” is actually two? We don’t know… yet.
Nonetheless, we’re now less than a month away from Doctor Who returning to TV!
