We’ve spotted Eleventh Doctor actor, Matt Smith in the new trailer for the upcoming Marvel-Sony collaboration film, Morbius. The teaser, released earlier this week, only definitely featured one shot of Matt, but this was strangely overlooked by the Internet en masse, perhaps because many didn’t recognise him. Some even thought he was David Tennant. No, really. We hear the role used to be played by Tennant, but then he regenerated so…
Anyway, see if you can spot Messr Smith.
Matt will play Loxias Crown, described as “Morbius’ best friend who also suffers from the blood disease” which afflicts the main character, better known in the comics by the moniker “Hunger.”
Hunger debuted in Spider-Man#76 (1997), created by Howard Mackie and John Romita Jr., and made relatively few appearances in subsequent years (but notably on the cover of 1999’s Peter Parker: Spider-Man #7).
Elsewhere, the trailer confused a lot of folk for a spoilery phot of Spider-Man (albeit taken from the recent PlayStation 4 game, with the character wearing the costume he did in the Tobey Maguire trilogy (2002, 2004, 2007). The closing shot also includes a character from Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), leaving fans to ask whether this is any part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Technically, it isn’t but due to messy film rights, Sony can use those same characters and actors anyway. I’d explain the whole headache-inducing thing if I had a PowerPoint presentation handy and several hours of spare time.
Morbius, which is also due to star Jared Harris, Adria Arjona, and Tyrese Gibson, is out in July 2020.
