You may want to sit down and breathe into a paper bag: Game of Thrones beat Doctor Who and Sherlock to be named the best TV show of the 21st Century.
We should note that this century has, comparatively, just started, so there’s still time for Doctor Who to take the crown back (certainly from a series which is, for all intents and purposes, over now, whereas Doctor Who still very much has a future). Nonetheless, it’s a bit disappointing.
The poll was conducted by Digital Spy, the popular entertainment site, which published its results in the first issue of its Apple News Plus magazine.
Doctor Who took third place while Sherlock (created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss and starring numerous Who stars, including Sacha Dhawan, Danny Webb, Chipo Chung, Peter Davison, and Lindsay Duncan) was named the fourth best TV show of the 21st Century. Game of Thrones took the top spot, while Stranger Things came second.
The rest of the Top 10 included Breaking Bad, The Great British Bake-Off, Killing Eve, Gavin and Stacey, Line of Duty, and Chernobyl.
Of course, this means very little and is based on quite faddy viewing habits; however, it does seem to indicate that fans are experiencing something of a slump in interest and viewers’ memories of the Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat years are fading somewhat.
Still, coming third place is a pretty brilliant thing nonetheless!
