The BBC has confirmed when The Power of the Doctor, the final story starring Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, will air on BBC1.
The special will begin at 7:30pm on BBC1, presumably just after the Strictly Come Dancing Results Show, on Sunday 23rd October 2022.
And as it’s further been confirmed that The Power of the Doctor‘s slot will be for 90 minutes, that means (in case you’re struggling with the maths) it’ll conclude at 9pm. At that time, we expect to learn exactly who the Thirteenth Doctor regenerates into: Ncuti Gatwa or, as rumoured, David Tennant, or maybe even Gatwa then Tennant. We might even learn a little bit more about the upcoming new era of Doctor Who, with Russell T Davies returning as showrunner.
Here’s the synopsis for The Power of the Doctor:
The Thirteenth Doctor must fight for her very existence, against her deadliest enemies: the Daleks, the Cybermen and her arch-nemesis, the Master.
Who is attacking a speeding bullet train on the edges of a distant galaxy? Why are seismologists going missing from 21st century Earth? Who is defacing some of history’s most iconic paintings? Why is a Dalek trying to make contact with the Doctor? And just what hold does the mesmeric Rasputin have over Tsar Nicholas in 1916 Russia?
The story is written by Chris Chibnall, bringing an end to his era of the show, which began (alongside Whittaker) with 2018’s Series 11. Mandip Gill and John Bishop (respectively playing companions, Yasmin Khan, and Dan Lewis) are also expected to leave with Whittaker and Chibnall.
