It’s Tom Baker’s Birthday! So Which Is Your Favourite Fourth Doctor Story?

Fourth Doctor actor and all-round legend, Tom Baker, celebrates his 91st birthday today (20th January 2025), so we want to know which is your favourite story starring the scarf-wearing incarnation of the Doctor?

We’ve set up a poll with 10 options, i.e. serials that are often seen as the Fourth Doctor’s best. Yes, we’re aware this is going to cause arguments in itself. But we couldn’t list them all. And what would we do about Shada?!

So we’ve gone with The Ark in Space, Genesis of the Daleks, Terror of the Zygons, Pyramids of Mars, The Seeds of Doom (the one with the Krynoids, not the one with the Ice Warriors, ’cause the latter is the Second Doctor, even though the names are awfully alike), The Robots of Death, The Talons of Weng-Chiang, Horror of Fang Rock, City of Death, and Logopolis. I feel bad leaving out the Key to Time season, but I know if I put forward The Pirate Planet instead of one of the others, people would kick off and complain about Fibuli-related bias.

So please vote in the poll, and then expand on your thoughts below. And we’d like to hear which other Fourth Doctor stories you love! I’ve always loved The Sontaran Experiment, Planet of Evil, The Face of Evil, Image of the Fendahl, Nightmare of Eden, and State of Decay. I’m predicting some fans won’t be pleased that The Deadly Assassin is missed out of the poll. But heck, let’s use this opportunity to enthuse about an era we love.

If you can’t see the poll, it might be due to an ad-blocker or browser settings. Just copy this link into the URL instead (https://poll.fm/14927903) and vote there — it’ll still count.
