Doctor Who: The Tenth Planet Soundtrack to be Released on Vinyl for Record Store Day 2025

The soundtrack to the very last First Doctor story, The Tenth Planet, will be released on vinyl for this year’s Record Store Day.

The story will be available as a two-vinyl special, with a cover sporting the Cybermen — The Tenth Planet, after all, is the famous enemies’ first appearance. And of course, it features the first ever regeneration, with William Hartnell being ‘renewed’ and turning into Patrick Troughton’s Second Doctor.

Here’s the synopsis for the vinyl release:

Demon Records present, exclusively for Record Store Day 2025, one of the most celebrated Doctor Who stories ever, now for the first time on double vinyl. A stunning designed monochrome outer cover, featuring silver foil detail on the Cyberman, houses two illustrated inner sleeves with Radio Times-style billings for each episode. The 12” discs – one white, one silver – are on 140g vinyl.

This narrated BBC soundtrack adventure, first broadcast in 1966, features the debut appearance of the deadly Cybermen and the first ever regeneration of the Doctor, played by William Hartnell. Doctor Who lore would never be the same again!

These Cybermen returned for the Twelfth Doctor’s penultimate adventure, World Enough and Time/ The Doctor Falls, largely because Peter Capaldi loves them so much. And understandably so: they’re wonderfully realised, incredibly creepy, and beautifully iconic.

This year’s Record Store Day is 12th April 2025 — a time to celebrate independent record stores as a shed-load of exclusive titles are released and are available from indies… and scalpers on eBay. If you can get to a local store, expect a long queue, but if you really want it, it’s worth it; ditto for a range of other new vinyls. Otherwise, turn to eBay or similar sources: you do find occasional outlets with products at RRP (not that we know that as yet), and Amazon sometimes has excessive stock — you won’t be supporting indie shops, but if consumers aren’t fully catered for, what else can you do?

Let’s just wait and see how fairly these are distributed and keep fingers crossed!
