A potential leak might tell us more about the cancelled Doctor Who Christmas special that was due on screens later this year.
Though showrunner Russell T Davies has since stated that the script was never written as the festive special was never actually in the works, there are numerous reasons to be suspicious about that, considering other parties like Murray Gold spoke briefly about the story (not to mention the fact you can’t cancel something that never existed in the first place). So a current rumour has it that the script was in its earliest stages and wasn’t developed, meaning it’ll be a scrapped storyline. But we know nothing about it, apart from the fact it would’ve addressed Billie Piper apparently being cast as the Sixteenth Doctor (as seen at the end of The Reality War).
And now, a possible leak has disclosed what the story might’ve been about.
According to the “leak”, the Sixteenth Doctor, as played by Piper, would’ve responded to a distress signal sent and found a human colony orbiting a dying star and seeing the ghosts of deceased loved ones. The colony’s leader had previously met Rose Tyler, so the TARDIS had helped to choose this Doctor’s face to help the leader accept the Doctor’s help. It would turn out that the star was alive and had been trying to lure the Doctor to the colony by taking the form of the Doctor’s granddaughter, Susan — which would perhaps tie up some loose ends from The Interstellar Song Contest. It would also have revealed itself as the “boss” that aliens like Beep the Meep mentioned. The star lured the Doctor there as it sees her as an “ultimate power source”, capable of keeping the star and its colonists alive.
The star apparently would let the colonists flee and accept its own death, only for the Doctor to use her regeneration energy to revive it (potentially helped along by Joy from Joy to the World, aka another sentient star). The star thanked the Doctor by letting her save Rogue and visit the real Susan, thus typing up more loose ends. Presumably, a Seventeenth Doctor would walk off into the sunset.
Now, all of this might be nonsense. Or it might be close to the truth. We don’t know at this stage. It’s quite an elaborate thing for a fake leaker to make up and it does sound like the sort of thing you might expect to conclude the current era of the show; nonetheless, that might be why it’s such a convincing fake.
