The Eighth Doctor himself, Paul McGann, will be attending this weekend’s Isle of Wight comic convention.
The event takes place at 1Leisure, Medina Centre, on Saturday 24th October 2026 (hey, that’s tomorrow!), and visitors are promised a chance to not only meet the Doctor but also immerse themselves in a Doctor Who-themed area, complete, of course, with a Dalek and the TARDIS, plus further props and costumes.
The event is in association with the Isle of Wight MS Society, to raise money for their work supporting patients with the disease and their carers. I’ve been working with Colin Howard, cover artist on the Doctor Who VHS range, who suffers with Multiple Sclerosis, and it’s an incredibly frightening and debilitating disease — so well done to this comic con for raising money and raising awareness.
McGann played the Doctor in the 1996 TV Movie 30 years ago, but reprised his role off screen for Big Finish audio, making him a prolific Doctor!
He’ll be joined by Clem So, a supporting actor you’ll recognise for appearances in stories like The Angels Take Manhattan, Deep Breath, and Oxygen. He’s a nice chap, so is sure to share plenty of stories working with Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi (respectively the Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors).
Also appearing at the event is Brian Muir, the sculptor who helped create Darth Vader’s helmet and armour in Star Wars.
There will also be plenty of traders there, selling comics, trading cards, homemade goods, and more.
It seems like a nice little event, detached from those big, horrible conventions where everyone is given 30 seconds to grab an autograph then shuffle on. So let’s support these more humble, personal conventions!
