Resolution Overnight Ratings Revealed

You might’ve heard some decidedly downbeat things about the ratings for Resolution, the New Year’s Day special of Doctor Who – but it’s not as bad as it sounds!

The episode was watched by 5.15 million viewers, according to overnights. This has been widely reported, with many media outlets noting that this is the least-watched Doctor Who special shown over the festive period; you can see a full list of Christmas special ratings, from The Feast of Steven to Twice Upon A Time.

However, this is a 22.4% audience share, making it the 4th highest-rated show of 1st January 2019.

The most programme of New Year’s Day was Luther, written by Hide‘s Neil Cross, seen by 5.63 million (and we highly recommend those with strong constitutions watch the series!). In second place in the day’s chart was Coronation Street (5.38 million), then Emmerdale (5.17 million).

And of course, these figures will rise when those who recorded Doctor Who and watched within 7 days are added in. We expect the consolidated ratings to hover around 7 million.
