To celebrate Doctor Who‘s 61st anniversary, BBC Writers (formerly known as BBC Writersroom) has added the shooting scripts from Season 1 (or as I prefer to call it Series 14, for convenience) to their Whoniverse library.
That’s right, all eight episodes featuring the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson)! Consisting of:
- Space Babies
- The Devil’s Chord
- Boom
- 73 Yards
- Dot and Bubble
- Rogue
- The Legend of Ruby Sunday
- Empire of Death
At the same time, the official Doctor Who YouTube channel uploaded the deleted scenes from Season 1, which also features a couple from the third 60th anniversary special The Giggle. Definitely worth reading alongside the scripts!
But that’s not all! There’s also the script for the seventh Tales of the TARDIS episode, Pyramids of Mars, written by showrunner Russell T Davies, which originally aired on BBC Four between both halves of the Season 1 two-part finale The Legend of Ruby Sunday/Empire of Death. Only the scene in the Remembered TARDIS, set during the latter half, which involves the Doctor reminiscing his first encounter with Sutekh to Ruby.
On a separate note, Steven Moffat shared two incomplete rough drafts of his script for Boom on X (formerly Twitter), to coincide with the #ThoughtsAndPrayers watchalong/tweetalong on 23rd November (Doctor Who Day). Very interesting to see his two attempts at writing a full episode, years after stepping down as showrunner. And in case the Dropbox links stop working, I’ve uploaded both PDF scripts here.
Well, we’ve not long until the 2024 Christmas special Joy to the World, written by Moffat himself (which may or may not be his last contribution to the Whoniverse), so fingers crossed for BBC Writers to add the script sometime after broadcast.
