Happy New Year, indeed: Tom Baker has been awarded an MBE for services to television in King Charles III’s 2025 New Year’s Honours list!
Baker, of course, is best known for playing the Fourth Doctor between 1974 and 1980, appearing in a huge number of classic, much-loved serials including: The Ark in Space, Genesis of the Daleks, Terror of the Zygons, The Face of Evil, The Robots of Death, The Pirate Planet, City of Death, State of Decay, and Logopolis.
And frankly, it’s about time!
Then again, Sir Tom Baker sounds even better…
And Anne Reid (Smith and Jones), Carey Mulligan (Blink), and Sarah Lancashire (Partners in Crime) have all got CBEs for their services to drama. Stephen Fry (Spyfall) has been given a knighthood.
We’re rather pleased to see that Lee Castleton, Rebecca Thomson, Jo Hamilton, Christopher Head, and Seema Misra have been given OBEs for services to justice in exposing the Post Office scandal, which was dramatised as Mr Bates Vs the Post Office, with the titular role played by Amy’s Choice actor, Toby Jones.
Baker will be celebrating his birthday on 20th January too, so this should be a great start to 2025 for him — and for Doctor Who fans, as we’re always very happy to see the show’s cast and crew celebrated.
Congratulations to everyone on the 2025 New Year’s Honours list.
