Four writers have been confirmed for the next season of Doctor Who, the second series with Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor. This includes a returning writer who previously worked on the Thirteenth Doctor era.
Pete McTighe wrote Kerblam! and Praxeus, and has worked with showrunner, Russell T Davies, on the upcoming spin-off, The War Between the Land and the Sea. He’s also written for Doctor Who: The Collection, the Blu-ray sets, and is also a nice chap, so we’re glad to see he’s back. He said:
“The TARDIS is my home away from home, so it’s been a joy to step back inside, with Russell at the console and the incredible team at Bad Wolf hanging on for dear life. I love this show with all my heart, and am really proud of what we’ve been able to achieve with my next episode.”
Sharma Angel-Walfall (The Ballad of Renegade Nell for Disney+) was rumoured to be writing for the next series, as was Nigerian poet, Inua Ellams. The latter says:
“For as long as I can remember television, I’ve been a Doctor Who fan. I started watching when I was 10 in Nigeria. The show invited me to dream, to live beyond my reality. Getting to write for the show felt like touching God; it was blasphemously humbling and exciting, and I can’t wait to share my story with the world.”
And Angel-Walfall adds:
“I am buzzing to be a part of such an iconic show! I am a massive Russell T Davies fan, so it is a dream come true to be able to work alongside him, especially on a show that I love. It’s a real privilege to be a part of the Doctor Who family. I have loved every minute!”
It’s great to welcome new writers to the show, especially when they’re so enthusiastic.
The final writer is Juno Dawson, who has controversial views on homosexuality and what’s appropriate for a young audience (see Wonderland for example).
So those are our new writers. A mixed bag, let’s say.
