We’re very proud and happy to say that Peter Shaw, a regular contributor to the Doctor Who Companion, has written two one-act plays that are to be performed later this year.
Mirrors and Parent/Teacher are produced by Upstage Theatre and will be performed at the Riverhouse Barn in Walton-on-Thames in May.
After Peter finished his Master’s Degree in Playwriting, his first full-length play, Love at First, was performed first in his hometown of Walton-on-Thames then at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, to great acclaim. These two new plays are sure to be brilliant and we’re very pleased that Peter’s talent is being widely recognised. Mirrors (which Peter has also directed) explores how family dynamics change when the matriarch begins to decline, while Parent/Teacher is a revealing trip down memory lane, starting with a parent’s unexpected encounter at his son’s school meeting.
Peter says:
“Just after lockdown, I came across Upstage and saw that they were looking for local scriptwriters. I took the plunge and sent them a few scripts I’d worked on. They were very enthusiastic. They selected a script to be performed as an audio play on Brooklands radio. Since then, they have produced four more of mine.
“But my main love is live theatre. So I was delighted that Tess and Karen from Upstage were keen to put together a double bill of two one-act plays I’ve written. And back at the Riverhouse! The two plays are very contrasting. Mirrors is an emotional journey with a family dealing with dementia. Parent/Teacher is a drama-comedy about relationships and secrets. The linking theme is confronting past events and relationships, both with a twist at the end. It should make a very entertaining and thought-provoking evening…”
The two plays are being staged at the Riverhouse Barn on Thursday 29th to Saturday 31st May at 7:30pm, and Saturday 31st May at 2:30pm. Tickets are just £18 each or £108 for a table of six.
