This Saturday (5th April 2025) sees the 10th anniversary celebration of the Bedford Who Charity Con in Bedford, organised by our very own Simon Danes, aided by his brother and a fellow DWC contributor, Frank!
So we want to know whether you’re attending the convention and if so, what you’re most looking forward to!
This year’s event includes a number of high-profile guests, including Neve McIntosh (Madame Vastra, as well as other Silurians, Alaya and Restac), Jacqueline King (Sylvia Noble), and Jill Curzon (Louise in the Peter Cushing movie, Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.). Jill will be on hand to dedicate copies of her autobiography, Jill Curzon 2023 A.D.: My Eventful Life, available from Candy Jar Books. The publisher will have a nice little surprise for guests, and will further have a range of titles to purchase from a stall in the dealers’ area.
Oh, and I’ll be there too, so would love to chat to any readers of the DWC. Warning: I may try to flog you something — I’ll be signing copies of books like 100 Objects of Dr Who, The Benton Files III, and my most recent tome, Companions: More Than Sixty Years of Doctor Who Assistants.
The event raises money for a good cause, namely SMART, Bedford’s homeless charity, which runs a day centre, and provides emergency and longer-term accommodation.
As such, there are lots of generous and lovely guests coming, like Katy Manning (Jo Grant), Sophie Aldred (Ace), Louise Jameson (Leela), Peter Roy (a supporting artist in many serials), and Virginia Wetherell (Dyoni in The Daleks).
Throughout the day, there will be talks and sketches, the latter written by the wonderful Simon, and you’ll get the chance to buy merchandise from the dealers’ stalls and queue up for autographs and selfies with the stars.
If you can’t make it this weekend or missed your chance to get a ticket, head over to the official site to learn more and keep an eye on future events.
Hopefully see you there!
