A Special Doctor Who Unleashed, Celebrating 20 Years Since the Show Returned, Airs Tomorrow

A special edition of Doctor Who: Unleashed celebrating 20 years of 21st Century Doctor Who will air tomorrow (Saturday 7th June 2025).

The hour-long episode will be on iPlayer from 6am on BBC iPlayer, then screen later tomorrow on BBC1 Wales. Note that it’s a regional thing, so won’t be screened in other districts, but will be available to stream on iPlayer regardless; plus, you can just find BBC1 Wales on your TV as it’s normally accessible via Sky and Freeview.

The usual Unleashed presenter, Steffan Powell, chats to a number of cast and crew including:

  • Russell T Davies, the current showrunner, who also helped bring the show back in 2005.
  • Steven Moffat, showrunner from 2010 to 2017.
  • Chris Chibnall, showrunner for the Thirteenth Doctor era.
  • Former production designer, Edward Thomas
  • David Tennant, aka the Tenth and Fourteenth Doctors.
  • Jodie Whittaker, aka the Thirteenth Doctor.
  • Ncuti Gatwa, the recently-regenerated Fifteenth Doctor.
  • Varada Sethu, who played Fifteenth Doctor companion, Belinda Chandra.
  • Karen Gillan, aka Amy Pond, the Eleventh Doctor’s companion.
  • Arthur Darvill, who starred alongside Matt Smith and Karen as companion, Rory Williams.
  • Pearl Mackie, who was the Twelfth Doctor’s companion, Bill Potts.
  • Mandip Gill, the Thirteenth Doctor’s companion, Yasmin Khan.
  • Costume designer, Ray Holman.
  • Billie Piper, who played Rose Tyler opposite the Ninth and Tenth Doctors, as well as the Moment in The Day of the Doctor.

Of course, with The Reality War bringing Piper back seemingly as the next Doctor, Powell might ask her about this, so we may learn more about the future of the show. But we sort of doubt it, given that Billie’s return was something of a last-minute decision.

You can also watch previous episodes of Doctor Who: Unleashed on iPlayer.
