To celebrate twenty years of Doctor Who Christmas specials, Candy Jar Books is releasing a special tome that looks at all the festive TV stories, from The Christmas Invasion in 2005 to last year’s Joy to the World.
Now, with (very probably) no Christmas special this year, Candy Jar is releasing the ultimate celebration in Doctor Who Christmas Specials, edited by Baz Greenland, and featuring work by a number of Doctor Who Companion writers!
Baz says:
“This limited edition book is for anyone who loves Doctor Who and Christmas. I was there for the first broadcast of The Christmas Invasion in 2005, and writing this with my son Ben, the biggest Doctor Who fan I know, has been an absolute joy. The essays from all the amazing contributors made me laugh, cry, and see these episodes in completely new ways.”
The book includes essays by the DWC’s own Jonathan Appleton, Peter Shaw, and, uhm, me (Philip Bates).
Doctor Who Christmas Specials also features the work of Kevin Heritage, TD Valesquez, PJ Montgomery, Sean Mason, Tony Black, Matt Dennis, Darren Mooney, Craig McKenzie, Hugh McStay, Tom Dexter, Verity Russell, Joe Glass, and Lee Thacker.
Ben Greenland adds:
“I’ve always loved how the Christmas specials get away with more silliness and fun than regular episodes. Discovering how they came to be has been a real treat, and shows why they’ve become such a long-running family tradition.”
This includes stories featuring the Tenth, Eleventh, Twelfth, Thirteenth, and Fifteenth Doctors, respectively played by David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, Jodie Whittaker, and Ncuti Gatwa!
Doctor Who Christmas Specials is a festive, fun, and insightful look at two decades of time-traveling holiday magic — because Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without the Doctor.
This book will be released before Christmas, so is an ideal gift for any fans in the family.
