Coming Soon: An Anthology of Stories About Missing Episodes of TV (with Familiar Doctor Who Names)

Obverse Books has a nice little treat in store for us all next month: Fabulous! A Missing Episodes Anthology, a title that brings together eleven stories based on TV shows with episodes that are no longer held in the archives.

This book is to bring awareness of the plight of Film is Fabulous!, the charitable trust that works to preserve collections from film enthusiasts; sometimes, these collections include missing episodes — as was the case earlier this year, when two episodes of The Daleks’ Master Plan turned up!

Fabulous! A Missing Episodes Anthology also raises money for the trust.

Here’s the blurb:

For much of the twentieth century, television programmes in Britain were considered to be of little long-term value, and not the permanent cultural records we view them as today. As a result, hundreds of episodes of shows made by the BBC and other broadcasters were ‘wiped’, disappearing from the archives and leaving significant gaps in media history.

In recent times, the most successful group working to preserve our television and film past is Film is Fabulous!, a charitable trust whose main purpose is to help private film collectors and their families preserve, catalogue and responsibly dispose of vulnerable film collections

All profits from this collection, containing new short stories from all sorts of series missing an episode or two, will be donated to help their work.

The book includes work by a number of people whose names should be familiar to Doctor Who fans including Tim Gambrell (The Vaughn Identity); The Black Archive‘s editor, Paul Driscoll; Dale Smith (The Many Hands); Kara Dennison (Ice Hot); and Iain McLaughlin (The Eye of the Scorpion, and the upcoming Lucy Wilson novel, The Ark in Time).

Plus, Paul Magrs gives us a crossover between Doctor Who and Crossroads!

Here’s what’s inside:

  • The Avengers: Target Practice – Iain McLaughlin
  • Ace of Wands: The Mind Electric – Kara Dennison
  • Crossroads / Doctor Who: Crossroads in the Middle of the Galaxy – Paul Magrs
  • Dark Shadows: Echoes of Lost Shadows – Daniel McGachey
  • Doomwatch: Instant Death – Tim Gambrell
  • The Adventure Game: Granore Drum – Jay Eales
  • The Professor’s Second Cousin, Twice Removed – Courtney Milnestein
  • Dad’s Army: Wilson the Traitor– Stuart Douglas
  • Mr Rogers’ Neighborhood: The Man Who Manufactures – Cody Schell
  • Dixon of Dock Green: Cyril’s Sherbet – Paul Driscoll
  • The Trollenberg Terror: Return to Trollenberg – Dale Smith

Fabulous! A Missing Episodes Anthology is available to pre-order now from Obverse Books.
