Twelfth Doctor actor, Peter Capaldi, has spoken about how “blessed” he feels, partly due to being the lead in Doctor Who.
When asked what in his life he regrets and wishes he could change, Capaldi replied:
“I’ll give the showbiz answer: nothing. I’ve been very blessed. I probably get recognised most for Doctor Who and The Thick of It. People come up and say hello and ask for selfies, which is very sweet. Some people ask me to tell them to f*** off – which I happily do – but I mustn’t get the fans mixed up. You can’t do that to Doctor Who fans.”
We’re pretty sure some Who fans would be okay with being told to eff off too.
He also reveals that his autograph owes something to another Doctor… albeit not one you might be expecting. Capaldi said:
“When I was about 14, I met Peter Cushing and I got his autograph. As we have the same initials, I stole his signature – so mine is a distant echo of his.”
Cushing, of course, played a version of the First Doctor in two movies, Dr Who and the Daleks and Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D., but is known for a wide range of roles, from Star Wars to the Hammer horror films.
It’s rather a lovely interview — calming and charming — so do check the full piece out over on The Observer.
Now, I wonder if Capaldi still has Cushing’s autograph somewhere…
