Demon Records has announced a special Fifth Doctor set, to be available as a deluxe CD boxset as well as on vinyl, to celebrate 45 years of Peter Davison’s first appearance in Doctor Who.
Davison narrated two Doctor Who Target Books written by Terrance Dicks, alongside bonus audio items. It’s something of a mixed bag, at least for some fans, but it does give a fair overview of this incarnation of the Doctor — Kinda was only the third story featuring the Fifth Doctor, while Warriors of the Deep comes towards the end of Peter’s TV tenure. While the former is now seen as a classic, the latter is viewed less favourably… but I still enjoy it. I think part of the enjoyment is in this particular TARDIS team, which sees the Doctor travelling with Tegan Jovanka (Janet Fielding) and Turlough (Mark Strickson).
Bonus features include Peter’s appearance at Longleat House in 1983, alongside Janet Fielding and then-producer John Nathan-Turner, and interview extracts from 30 Years, View from the Boundary, and Graham Norton.
