Doctor Who Series 9 Soundtrack Tops Official Classic FM Chart

The wait has been worth it, because the Doctor Who Series 9 Soundtrack by Murray Gold is at #1 in the Classic FM Chart!
The CD set was released on 27th April, and has immediately claimed the top spot in the radio station’s album chart, knocking off last week’s #1, Alan Silvestri’s Ready Player One, the music from the sci-fi film which now sits at #3. In fact, both #1 and #2 are new to the chart, with the Doctor Who Series 9 Soundtrack followed by the OST for Avengers: Infinity War (also by Silvestri). The latter is based purely on streaming, as the physical release isn’t out until 25th May (and in case you’ve not seen the Marvel film yet, the track list is very spoiler-free – and yes, we highly recommend you see Infinity War).
There are two versions of the Doctor Who Series 9 Soundtrack available – a normal one through sites like Amazon, and a Limited Edition from Silva Screen, which includes a slipcase and bonus booklet with Stuart Manning’s art. Once the Limited Edition has sold out, Silva Screen will revert to sending out the standard edition.
The most recent contemporary Doctor Who soundtrack before this was the Series 8 set, all the way back in May 2015. Yep, we’ve had quite a substantial wait!
This 4-disc set includes all the music from The Magician’s Apprentice/ The Witch’s Familiar, Under the Lake/ Before the Flood, The Girl Who Died, The Woman Who Lived, The Zygon Invasion/ The Zygon Inversion, Sleep No More, Face the Raven, and Heaven Sent/ Hell Bent, plus the 2015 festive special, The Husbands of River SongHeaven Sent, pleasingly, has a disc devoted entirely to it.
Being at #1 in the Classic FM Chart is a fantastic achievement, so congratulations to Murray Gold! Further releases in the Top 25 include the soundtracks to Blue Planet II; Star Wars: The Last JediThe Lord of the Rings Trilogy; The Little Mermaid; and the video game, God of War.
You can find Classic FM on digital radio, 100-102FM, and the chart is announced every Sunday evening.
