A new Doctor Who sand sculpture has been unveiled in Weymouth, with Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor front and centre, in an impressive line-up of Doctors and monsters.
Oh, and the TARDIS of course!
Created by Lisa Iindqvist, this impressive piece is made of compacted sand, part of the Science Fiction Sand Sculpture Festive in Weymouth, which also includes Alien vs Predator, Avatar, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, The Mandalorian, and a Star Wars original trilogy piece.
It’s amazing to think these are simply made from sand and water!
The Cybermen in Lisa’s sculpture are particularly cool, based on the Cybus Industries model from throughout the Tenth Doctor era. It also includes the 60th anniversary logo, a swirl of sandy Time Vortex, and a Weeping Angel, alongside all the previous main incarnations of the Doctor.
SandWorld’s Sand Sculpture Festival opened in April and runs until the 12th November 2023, shortly before Doctor Who celebrates its 60th anniversary — quite an achievement, and certainly worthy of such a magnificent sculpt.
There are also workshops to show you how it’s done, plus a café and gift shop.
